History: Des Moines topped the Three-I League in 1959 with a 78-48 record. The Demons Cal Emery was the league MVP and led the circuit in three offensive categories. Despite only playing one year in the majors, Emery went on to hit.400 for Eugene of the Pacific Coast League in 1969, and played for the Hankyu Braves in Japan the following season.
